1949 .......

Hewitt V. Lounsbury came to Alaska in May of 1944 with the US Army Corps of Engineers. "Hoots" was born in St. Paul Minnesota,  February 22, 1911 and passed away January 8, 1971.  In 1946 Hewitt started a candy company called L & W Candies and later known as Brownie Bear Candies. He founded Hewitt V. Lounsbury and Associates in 1949. Hewitt served on the Anchorage City Council and was Mayor from 1958-1959. He was also an active member of the Downtown Rotary and one of the founding members of the Alaska Society of Professional Land Surveyors.

First traffic signal installed in Anchorage on 4th Avenue.
Hydroelectric project opens.

Seward Highway opens. Anchorage International Airport opens.

1954 .......
4th Avenue becomes the first paved street in Anchorage.

1957 .......
Oil discovered on the Kenai Pennisula.
Lounsbury stakes discovery well at Swanson River oil field.
Port of Anchorage construction begins.

1958 .......
Last homestead in Anchorage bowl filed.
Hewitt V. Lounsbury is Mayor of Anchorage.
Alaska becomes the 49th State.
First passenger Jet arrives in Anchorage.


1960 .......

Fort Richardson Bypass construction begins.

1964
Good Friday Earthquake.
Lounsbury works on earthquake repairs all over Alaska

1967 .......
New Glenn Highway construction begins.

1968 .......
Discovery of oil on the North Slope.

1969 .......
Lounsbury surveys Deadhorse Airport and oilwells on the North Slope.

1971 .......
Parks Highway opens.
Municipality of Anchorage formed.
New Seward Highway construction begins.

1978 .......
Lounsbury surveys for development of the giant Prudhoe Bay oilfield facilities.
Lounsbury helps expand to Kuparuk.

1980 .......
Kuparuk oilfield opens.

1985 .......
Loren Lounsbury appointed State Commissioner of Commerce and Economic Development.
Exxon Valdez oil spill.

1993 .......
Lounsbury designs reconstruction of Sterling Highway entering Homer.

1996 .......
Lounsbury designs rehabilitation of New Seward Highway in midtown/downtown Anchorage.

1998 .......
Lounsbury designs and provides project management services for construction of new road opening Tarn oilfield on North Slope.

1999 .......
Lounsbury designs Alaska's first modern roundabout at the interchange of New Seward Highway and Dowling Road in midtown Anchorage.

2000 .......
Lounsbury enters the new millennium with many exciting projects throughout Alaska.

2003 .......
Lounsbury designed and implemented the Southport Drive roundabout in Anchorage.

2004 .......
Lounsbury designed and implemented the Dowling Road and Seward Highway roundabout in Anchorage. They were recognized nationally for their accomplishments. Website

Lounsbury announces the formation of Nunamiut/Lounsbury, LLC
Lounsbury & Associates
continues to be recognized as one of the top engineering and surveying firms in Alaska.

2009 .......
Establish the Hewitt V. Lounsbury Scholarship Fund benefiting engineering and geomatics majors at UAA.
